Attendance in schools in flood stricken areas are slowly improving says Divisional Education Officer West Lorima Voravora.

Voravora says all district education officers have been meeting with principals, heads of schools and managers to look at ways to improve attendance.

He says attendance in all areas except Nadi has improved.

Voravora says Nadi was the worst hit by the floods and after analysing the attendance they found out why students were not coming to school.

“We found that some of the students are psychologically still not tuned in and parents are still struggling to get their homes ready so that the students can come to school.”

Voravora adds attendance in Ra, Ba, Tavua, Vatukoula, Lautoka, Nadi and the Nadroga Navosa District have gone beyond 90%.
