No resting until violence is eliminated: Vuniwaqa

There is no settling until rape and sexual assault on women and children are brought down to zero.

Minister for Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa made this comment while speaking on how effective the legislation, policies and programs in place are, in addressing the increasing rate of violence against women and children.

Vuniwaqa stated that in fact the cases of rape and sexual assault on women and children have gradually decreased over the past three years.

She says that in 2016 the High Court received 462 cases, 444 cases in 2017 and 378 cases in 2018.

The Minister says that this indicates that policies are working and that people are not afraid to report.

She adds that the Ministry and relevant agencies that deal with cases of violence will continue to work towards eliminating violence.
