Crushing continues in Lautoka

November 15, 2015 3:45 am

While a firm date is to be fixed up to end the crushing season at the Lautoka Sugar Mill, the Fiji Sugar Corporation wants to see all cane for this sugar mill to be harvested and crushed without any stand over crop.

The Corporation executive Chair Abdul Khan says the tentative date for the Lautoka Sugar Mill to end crushing is November 23.

But Khan says both the Corporation and the Sugar Cane Growers Council is to make a joint submission to the Sugar Industry Tribunal for its final approval to end the crushing season.

Meanwhile, the Council chief executive Sundresh Chetty is urging all Lautoka cane farmers not to leave any harvestable crop for this crushing season.

Chetty says cane farmers must take full advantage of the current dry weather pattern to harvest and make delivery quickly.
