'Cyber attacks target hospitals fighting virus'

April 5, 2020 6:25 am

Hospitals on the frontline of fighting the coronavirus pandemic are facing a large increase in attempted cyber-attacks.

The International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) says that the criminals are using software to hold medical centres digitally hostage and prevent them accessing files and systems until a ransom is paid.

Interpol adds emails are primarily being used to spread the ransomware, and that it is collecting a list of suspicious Internet domains.
