Suva crowned provincial tens champion

The Suva rugby side beat Naitasiri 12 nil and became the first team to win the Fiji Rugby Unions Skipper Cup Provincial Tens.

Peni Matawalu who is the younger brother of Flying Fijian’s half back Nikola Matawalu scored for Suva in the first half to put them into the lead 7-nil.

Captain John Stewart thanked his players for playing as a team.

“As for Naitasiri they were always strong and well prepared and well-structured team but we stick to our game plan and what the coach told us to do.”

Meanwhile, Naitasiri Coach, Koli Sewabu says despite the loss, they played really well and are looking forward at this year’s rugby season.

“I’m proud of the way the boys played today and obviously there was a lot of games and we caught up in the end and I’m happy with the way my boys managed themselves today and congrats to Suva and it’s a good platform to start up with.”

Jone Manu of Suva was named the player of the final.

The Capital city side walked away with $5,000 of prize money while Naitasiri were awarded $2,500.

A national team will be named soon to represent the country at the Brisbane Tens competition which will be held on the 10th of next month.

Fiji is pooled with the Brumbies, Crusaders and Hurricanes.
