A stronger team with more depth is what new Fiji Bati coach Rick Stone promises to mould for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup in England next year.

Stone is in the country for a three-day stint with current squad members and brought some news on high profile players wanting to wear the Fiji Bati jersey again.

“Petero Civoniceva, Lote Tuqiri, Aku Uate, Wes Naiqama his brother Kevin, there’s Jason Bukuya from the Sharks all these sort of players playing at the high standard in the NRL and have shown some interest in playing for the Fiji team in 2013 which is exciting.”

The Fiji Bati side reached the semis at the World Cup in 2008 which was a proud feat despite losing 52-6 to world champions, Australia.

Meanwhile, this weekend, Stone will also be taking a look at the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools semi-finals which kicks off on Saturday.

Games will be played at the National Stadium – the Under 19 semis will be between Ratu Kadavulevu Eels and Queen Victoria Knights while Nasinu Panthers will play against John Wesley Sea Eagles.
