Smith classes Fiji 7s as unique

November 28, 2012 3:59 am

Prominent commentator, Nigel Starmer-Smith has classed the ability for Fiji to select a new-look side for the Dubai 7s as a ‘unique problem’.

Fiji coach Alifereti Dere has made seven changes to the team, which won the Gold Coast title last month and raised eye brows by doing so.

Smith says brining in seven players who have never played for Fiji before means the country has too many outstanding players to choose from.

And with only New Zealand, South Africa and England having won in Dubai to date, Smith says it’s about time a new winner was crowned.

The IRB Series commentator says it was time for either Fiji,Samoa, Australia or even Argentina to turn the table.

Meanwhile, Alifereti Dere’s men face Spain in their opening pool encounter at 6.50pm on Friday before taking on Scotland at 10.36pm.

The last pool match is against Kenya at 3.58am on Saturday.
