A new surfing champion will be crowned at the 2014 ASP Tour Fiji Pro at Tavarua this weekend.
Defending champion and 11-time world surfing champ Kelly Slater was ousted by Tahitian Michel Bourez in the second heat quarter-final at Cloudbreak this afternoon.
A massive result for Bourez who said when he came into the Fiji Pro this year, he only was aiming to reach the quarter-finals.
Bourez outscored Slater with 13.33 points over the American’s 8.90 score in the heat.
In other results, the USA’s Nat Young won over Australian Mick Fanning by six points to progress to tomorrow’s semi-finals.
Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina upset Australia’s John John Florence in the third quarter-final by taking in more waves to pile up on points.
The last challenge today saw USA’s Kolohe Andino dominate each wave to take out Brazilian Adriano De Souza.
