Fiji Rugby Union is urging Fijians to stop posting abusive comments online about some of the Fiji Airways men’s 7s players.

FRU Chief Executive John O’Connor says the abusive campaign on social media affects the team and could possibly hinder their future performances.

O’Connor is calling on rugby fanatics to be supportive.

“They were sort of rejected. I think there have been some very negative comments on social media especially towards Sevuloni Mocenacagi and other players plus towards the team but I urge the members of the public to continue to support the team and to be positive.”

This comes after Fiji 7s forward Sevuloni Mocenacagi was red carded against New Zealand in the Cup semi-final of the Sydney tournament.

Mocenacagi was given his marching orders after the Australia referee Damon Murphy regarded his high tackle as very dangerous.

Meanwhile, the Fiji 7s team is on a break and will return to camp to prepare for the Las Vegas 7s next week.

The national team is pooled with Australia, Wales and Scotland for the Vegas leg which will be held from 2nd to the 4th of March in USA.
