Fijiana Womens XV thrashed by New Zealand Development side

The Fijiana 15s team was thrashed by the New Zealand Development 53-0 in their build-up match to the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship at Churchill Park in Lautoka this afternoon.

Fiji was outclassed in every area of the game as the visitors ran riot.

The Fijiana managed to tighten up their defense in the second spell as they conceded 17 points after New Zealand was leading 36-0 at half time.

Fijiana captain Sereima Leweniqila said they had a few debutantes but they will have to get back to the drawing board for their next game.

Fiji will play Samoa in their first Championship match on Friday.

The national side, Samoa, Tonga and Papua New Guinea are part of the Oceania Women’s Championship.

The winner of the competition will feature in the Women’s 2021 Rugby World Cup.

Australia and New Zealand have already qualified for the World Cup.

In another match, the Samoan women’s team or the Manu Sina defeated Papua New Guinea 65-12 in the first match.

Meanwhile, Australia A’s opening game at the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championships today was called off.

The match between the Australians and Tonga, which was due to take place today, will be declared a draw with both teams awarded two points.

Oceania Rugby made the decision to cancel the match after a member of the Tonga team was reported to the Fiji Ministry of Health & Medical Services and Oceania Rugby to have suspected symptoms of measles.
