Matavesi hanging up his international boots

Flying Fijians Utility Back Josh Matavesi has confirmed that he will be leaving the international arena after a fruitful Rugby World Cup outing.

Following Fiji’s 29-17 loss to Wales last night, Matavesi on his Facebook page posted  a picture of his rugby jersey wrote  “I hope I’ve left it in a better place then when I found it. Thanks for the memories it’s been nothing but amazing to wear the white Jersey ? But player #640 is hanging up his International boots. Vinaka ??.”

Matavesi was born in Camborne in Cornwall, England to a Cornish mother and Fijian father.

He identifies himself as “Cornish Fijian” and has said that he feels Cornish, not English.

His father, Sireli Matavesi, who is from Vanuabalavu, Lau Islands, Fiji, toured the United Kingdom as a Fiji Barbarian in 1987 where he met his wife, Karen.

Matavesi began his international career for Fiji in 2009.

Till date he has been part of two of Fiji’s Rugby World cup squads.

His brother Sam Matavesi also plays for Fiji and this is first world cup in Japan.
