Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber has big plans for rookie Kavekini Tabu.

The Yamacia club forward impressed Baber this year and was drafted into the national 7s extended squad before making his debut at the Oceania 7s last month.

When asked whether he will use Kavekini in the backline just like his elder brother Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Baber says he will let the youngster settle in first.

“Sevu is there and that’s potentially the way we would look at the backline we have 7 backs and 7 forwards there’s always the potential to look at that in the future but I’m not really looking at it Kavekini it’s his first tournament give him some time give some space let him play one position let him and get to understand what it is to play HSBC standards.”

Kavekini will be playing alongside his brothers Mocenacagi and Isoa Tabu in Dubai and the Cape Town 7s in South Africa next weekend.

Fiji will play Japan at 4:02 am on Friday in its first Dubai 7s pool match before meeting Argentina at 10:04 pm also on Friday.

The final pool match will be against France at 4:02 am on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s will also feature in the second leg of the Women’s series in Dubai with their first match at 12:12 am on Friday against Australia.
