It was six years in the making and is now one of the biggest and most successful 7s tournaments in Vanua Levu that aims to develop rugby at the grassroots level.

Semi Radradra’s 7s tournament is about giving youths a chance to showcase their talents as well as giving back to the community.

Radradra told FBC Sports, playing overseas has shown him that others back at home, especially in the village need to expose their talents in rugby.

‘I see when I am overseas, I saw an opportunity – talent for young kids. So, I thought that if I do something just to support the grassroots back at home and give back to the community and the youth back in the village, hopefully they will be there one day’

Radradra formed the Eiffel Ruggers team, who were tournament favorites but went down in the Quarterfinals to Mua Knights 14-12.

The team consisted of big names in Rugby including Radradra himself, The Bus Josaia Tuisova, The Sledgehammer Eroni Sau, Former NZ rugby reps George Tinsy and Seta Tamanivalu as well as current national reps Antonio Nabuli, Jerry Tuwai and Alusio Naduva.

We didn’t come to win the competition. We just want to take part in the competition. Some of us, the villagers haven’t seen any of the boys on TV but in real life they haven’t met them. It’s just an idea to bring them, meet everyone in the village and just to show them my village as well.

Radradra says he is overwhelmed with the display of talents during the four days of the tournament.
