Protectionist wins Melbourne Cup

German horse Protectionist has claimed the 154th Melbourne Cup race at Flemington Racecourse.

The mare, led by jockey Ryan Moore came into the race at an odd of $8.00.

The joint second favorite pulled away on the last stretch to win the $6.2 million race.

Red Caudeaux from Great Britain finished as runners up with Who Shot the Barman of New Zealand claiming the third spot.

Japanese horse, Admire Rakti, which was the favorite, finished a disappointing last.
