Prasad wins opening match

Calvin Prasad is on track to defend his title at the Sports World National Chess Championship.

The national champion, who has won the tournament for the past two years, defeated Nat Gor in the first round.

In other games that were played at FASANOC Olympic House in Suva today, Stuart Fancy of Papua New Guinea defeated Claudia Koroi, Taioni Sikivou beat Jerika Prasad and former champion Manoj Kumar beat Divinish Nand.

Thirty six players have entered the tournament which will be played throughout the week.

The second round of the national championship begins at 2pm today.
