McKee and Qera impressed with the win

Vodafone Flying Fijians coach John McKee was a happy man after his secured a spot in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Fiji beat Tonga 14-10 and claimed the Oceania One spot which now sees them grouped with Australia, Wales, Georgia and Americas 2.

McKee says knowing the pool at this stage puts them in a good place to make plans on the preparation for the World Cup.

“That’s the pool we wanted to be and we have got a lot of work to do between now and 2019 because its just two years out from the World Cup and we know exactly where we heading and we will plan our programs thoroughly.”

Captain Akapusi Qera says it was a tough game against the Tongans but the Flying Fijians were focused on their mission.

“As first I would like to thank the almighty lord to giving us the strength for the past few weeks. It wasn’t an easy week for us but the boys managed to pull it out today and we know we still got another game next week but yes we have qualified to the next World Cup and that one of our goal.”

Meanwhile, an injury assessment will be done on the players before the final squad for the next match is declared.

Fiji plays Samoa next Saturday in Apia.
