Masirewa seals NZ 7s deal

There’s seven first-time players on the All Blacks Sevens contracted list for the next year.

Within the seven is Fijian-born Luke Masirewa, the son of former rep, Waisike Masirewa.

The 18-year-old Waikato player joins Cantabrian Sam Dickson, Hawke’s Bay’s Gillies Kaka and Milford Keresoma of Auckland who have all received the nod from coach Gordon Tietjens.

He was first brought in as a replacement to the South Africa 7s.

The 16 strong group also includes the return of familiar names Kurt Baker and Sherwin Stowers to the fold, alongside veterans DJ Forbes and Toby Arnold.

Next up in the IRB World Sevens Series is in Wellington, New Zealand on February 1-2.

Meanwhile, the Digicel Fiji Sevens teams preparations will begin with a fitness test on Boxing Day.
