Levuka Weightlifting will not attend meeting called by FASANOC

May 27, 2018 6:01 pm

Levuka Weightlifting Club President Peni Tawai says they will not attend any meeting that will be called by FASANOC.

This was after Weightlifting Fiji had requested an independent delegation from FASANOC to meet with the athletes and officials who have signed the statement of boycotting three major international events this year, to discuss the specifics and facts of the matter.

Weightlifting Fiji received the official email and the petition from these lifters including Eileen Cikamatana withdrawing from the Oceania Championships, Junior World Championships and the World Senior Championships this year.

Tawai wants Government to intervene and solve the issue.

“We will not attend that meeting which we suspect that all officials of the independent commission will be selected by Maharaj himself. I’m asking if the Minister of Sports solve this issue because he is neutral.”

However, Weightlifting Fiji will not make any further comment and will provide an update of the outcome once the delegation has completed its task.
