Lautoka eyes other tournaments

The Lautoka football team has defended their Courts IDC title successfully after beating Suva 1-0 in the final at the ANZ Stadium.

Samuela Nabenia scored for the Blues in the second half.

Both teams took cautious approach and seemed dangerous on counter attacks and set play.

Suva goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau made some crucial saves as Lautoka have the attack force with the likes of Benjamin Totori, Samuela Nabenia, Samuela Drudru and Afraz Ali.

Suva on the other hand with Filipe Baravilala, Bruce Hughes, Meli Codro and Napolioni Qasevakatini looked dangerous on counter attacks.

Lautoka captain, Samuela Drudru says the message for them was clear.

“We were reminded that our mission coming in to the tournament is to bring the trophy and take back the trophy and I thank the players for the great effort.”

Coach Kamal Swamy says the victory is their way forward in the upcoming tournaments.

“Our target to win the league and IDC and the boys have achieved it which is a great achievement for them and we already told them this is the way forward for our preparation and we’re on track.”

The Westerners walked away with twenty-two thousand dollars prize money while the Capital side received six thousand dollars.

Meanwhile, the Navua soccer team took out the senior division title in the Courts IDC after beating Nadroga 2-0 in the final at the ANZ Stadium.

Vineet Chand scored Navua’s first goal while veteran Seveci Rokotakala made it 2-0.
Both teams were locked at nil-all till the breather.
