Athletics Fiji today launched the Kids Athletics Course at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The one-week course aims to enhance the knowledge and credentials of local paralympic coaches and is partnered by Australian Sports Outreach Program (ASOP).

Athletics Fiji vice-president Joe Rodan Junior says the course aims to equip coaches with the relevant skills and training techniques to train disabled athletes around the country.

“So it will help them (coaches) go out and be able to run the training sessions or the vents without our help. It’s an empowering tool so it becomes something that everyone in the community accesses and they can easily pick up and use wherever they are.”

ASOP donated $9000 to help run the program, which will culminate with the coaches putting the lessons learnt to practice for disabled athletes at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this weekend.
