May 22, 2014 4:13 am

Vunisea Secondary School from Kadavu will be among the teams that will compete in the National 7s competition in Suva this weekend.

Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union president Napolioni Silatolu says the inclusion of the school is part of efforts to broaden the scope of participation from schools around the country.

“One of our biggest priorities this year is to try and strengthen out Tier 2 competition, which looks after the Vanua Levu schools and the Maritime schools. So this is one of the main areas that we want to focus our efforts on.”

The one-day tournament also serves as a selection ground for the national junior 7s team to the Youth Olympic Games in China this August.

The competition kicks-off at 8:30am on Saturday at the Suva Grammar School grounds in Suva.

Schools will be competing from the Southern and Eastern as well as the Baravi zones from the Coral Coast.

Western schools will not be competing due to financial constraints.
