Former Fiji Bati winger wins award

Former Fiji Bati winger Akuila Uate has shared the Australian Rugby League Commission’s ‘‘In A League Of Their Own’’ award for June.

Uate was recognised for the work he did raising funds for Fijian flood victims.

The Australian and former NSW speedster has shared the award with Karyn Murphy, one of Queensland’s longest-serving representative women’s rugby league players.

The Fijian-born flyer raised more than $17,000 for the victims of the Fiji floods by auctioning off three of his prized jerseys – his Knights jumper, and those he wore when representing the Australian Kangaroos and NSW State of Origin side last year.
