Patel elected as member of FIFA Council

Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel has been elected as the member of FIFA Council today at the OFC Extraordinary Congress in New Zealand.

Fiji FA Chief Executive Mohammed Yusuf says this is a major achievement for football in Fiji and around the region that Patel is the first Fijian ever sitting at this high ranked position of FIFA Council member.

“It is the main decision-making body of the organization in the intervals of FIFA Congress. Its members are elected by the FIFA Congress. The council is a non-executive, supervisory and strategic body that sets the vision for FIFA and global football.”

The FIFA Council is an institution of FIFA which is the governing body of association football, futsal and beach soccer.

Meanwhile, Vanuatu Football Federation President Lambert Maltock was elected as the president of OFC for the next four years.
