August 20, 2015 6:55 pm

The rugby faithful of this country will tonight find out who will be the 31 players named in the Vodafone Flying Fijians squad for the World Cup.

Coach John McKee has already indicated he will take 18 forwards and 13 backs from the current squad for the tournament.

Based on what is at his disposal, there are currently 13 backs in camp and they all should get the nod, while in the forwards, there will be four players who will miss out.

He says the plus factor for him is that most players are able to play in more than one position.

“Well certainly within our squad it’s a bonus because it probably allows to take an extra forward to the World Cup. We know that big workload particularly around the set plays and be able to swap players from game to game in that area. With our backline with some versatility, it gives us some luxury to take one less back. I really want to players to play in one position and not chopping and changing too much. I think in fairness to the players and combinations I think they need to be settled in their positions.”

The team will be captained by Akapusi Qera with Vereniki Goneva and another rep to be named vice captains.

The 31-member team for the World Cup will be named at 7pm in Suva. You can watch the coverage of this live on FBC TV from 6.30pm.

The team naming will also air live on Radio Fiji One, BULA FM and Gold FM at 7pm.
