Fiji International gains momentum

June 25, 2015 4:40 am

The organizers of the Fiji International Golf Tournament are working hard in trying to get the best players to feature in the event this year.

The tournament in its second year will again be played at the Natadola Golf Course in Sigatoka.

PGA Australia Chief Commercial Officer, Steve Ayles, says getting the best players is must for any tournament.

“When you start getting players of the standard and ability that we had last year, we know that is only going to get stronger. As more and more golfers come they have a fantastic experience, they will go away and tell other people on the tour and in the following years we will see it just get stronger.”

The tournament will be played from October 15-18.

*The Fiji International Golf tournament is gaining momentum with organizers using the Masters tournament in Augusta in the United States this weekend to try and rope in top players.

The Masters will see the best golfers from around the world take part and hopes are to convince some of the big names to feature in Fiji in October.

PGA Australia CEO, Brian Thorburn, says the tournament will be played on a bigger scale to that of last year.

“We have started talks with various other players. This year the date will be a week after the Presidents Cup, which is being held in Korea. So we believe we will be able to get some of the international stars to come from Korea to Fiji before they go to the USA for example. So we are looking at players in the top 50 in the world and discussions will happen in Augusta this week.”

The Fiji International takes place at the Natadola course from October 15-18.
