Fiji 7s team departs for Sydney

The Fiji Airways National Sevens team will leave the country this morning for the Sydney and Hamilton tournament.

Fiji hasn’t won the Sydney 7s tournament for the past two years and coach Gareth Baber is confident of a good outing this weekend.

Meanwhile host Australian men’s 7s skipper Lewis Holland is ready to make a comeback in the Sydney tournament this weekend.

Holland watched on at his home tournament last year, still recovering from an achilles injury suffered in training four months earlier.

The 25-year-old says he is ready to lead the pack in front of a huge crowd come Friday.

“There is a lot of energy and focus on this tournament especially the way we are training and the answers the players are bringing. Hopefully everything goes in line and we when we play we play well.”

Australia is grouped with Canada, Scotland and USA.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways mens 7s side is pooled with New Zealand, Samoa and Russia.

They kick off their campaign against Samoa at 8.28pm on Friday.

The side then plays Russia at 5.09pm on Saturday before facing New Zealand at 8.42pm.

The Cup quarter-final kicks off at 12.28pm on Sunday, semi-final begins at 6.36pm and the final is schedule for 9.48pm.
