Hundreds of people gathered at the Nadi International Airport to greet the Vodafone Fiji 7s team after returning from the Asian leg of the World Sevens Series.

The team was hosted to a special reception area by the Fiji Rugby Union and major sponsors after winning the Hong Kong 7s title and finishing in third spot in the Tokyo tournament.

Coach, Ben Ryan says the players played their best at the two tournaments and it would not have been possible without the support from their fans around the world.

“We have played seven tournaments so far and 21 group games have been played and we are the only team to have 21 out of 21 victories out of those group games. We had an eighteen game of winning run and in the history of the World Series in fifteen years, Fiji has never had 15 games of winning run and these boys are showing incredible amounts of consistency with a win in Las Vegas and Hong Kong.”

Minister for Youths and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou, was also present and applauded the players for continuing to do the nation proud.

The team received a $20,000 cheque from Vodafone for the win in Hong Kong and $10,000 for settling in third place at the Tokyo 7s.
