Farina backs Fijian football

Fiji Under-20 football technical advisor Frank Farina says islands nations will soon start pushing New Zealand for spots in different World Cups.

Farina, who joined the national youngsters earlier this week is working with Fiji U20 coach Ravinesh Kumar in the build-up to the 2015 World Cup.

He says Fiji’s participation at the World Cup will open doors for future achievements.

“You know Fiji in particular have always had physically very good player and physically strong players. But you look at the set up in Fiji, I believe is the best in Oceania at the moment with the academy structures they have here. I can see island football getting better and certainly in five to six years and if not earlier the likes of Fiji will be pushing New Zeeland for spots in not only the age World Cups but all the way through.”

Fiji U20 is the first football team from the country to qualify for any World Cup.
