Drua loses to Rays but through to NRC finals series

The Fiji Airways Drua side has lost its last round robin match to Sydney Rays 36-29 at Suva’s ANZ Stadium.

It was the first time this season that the Fijian Drua was kept scoreless in the first spell trailing 12-nil at the break.

Three more tries in the first fifteen minutes of the second spell saw the Sydney Rays leading 29-nil.

Seru Cavuilati came off the bench to score two tries while Kini Douglas scored another two with Peni Raidre also touching down.

A dramatic comeback was on the cards but the Rays scored a try in the 76th minute to secure the win.

Fiji finished the round robin competition on third position with 22 points.

Queensland Country lead the standings with 28 points while Canberra Vikings are second with 25.

Queensland and Vikings have their last matches tomorrow after which the semi-final opponent for the Drua will be decided.

The Drua will play an away semi-final either against the Queensland or the Vikings.
