Djokovic passes heat test at the Australian Open

World number 14 in men’s singles tennis Novac Djokovic defeated Gael Monfil of France in their second round match 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, and 6-3 in two hours and 45 minutes as the temperature hit 39C.

Djokovic, 30, says coming back and play at this year’s tournament is an honor to him.

“Obviously coming back into this court is always a special feeling because I had such a wonderful memories in the past and this is probably my most successful court I’ve played on in my entire career. Obviously, they Australia open a happy slam for a reason and everybody is happy and it’s a great pleasure to be here.”

Looking at an interesting upset, world number three Garbine Muguruza was beaten in straight sets by world number 88 Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan.

This left former Open winners Maria Sharapova and Angelique Kerber and French Open titleholder Jelena Ostapenko as the only grand slam champions left in the women’s singles.

Five-time Grand Slam Sharapova defeated Anastasija Sevastova in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 and 7-4.

In the men’s category, Second seed, Roger Federer beat Jan-Lennard Stuff in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 and 7-6.
