Consistencies in the Fiji Hockey team are much needed

The Fiji men’s and women’s hockey teams need to lift their level of fitness before heading to the round two of the Hockey World League competition next year.

Fiji Hockey President, Robin Mitchell says consistencies in the team are much needed.

“Small association, we got only 400 senior players but we building our base in primary and secondary schools and we hope that does contribute and difficulties faced is that we are small sporting association competition in a country where there is major sports who are getting sponsors from the government”.

Meanwhile Fiji men’s are the best in the Oceania region after defeated the Vanuatu team 6-2 in the World League Round 1 while the women’s hockey team successfully took Gold by defeating PNG in the final 3-2.

The Fiji women’s will now travel to Kuala Lampur in Malaysia in January next year for the Hockey World League Round 2 tournament while the men’s team will travel to Bangladesh in February to confirm placing in the 2017 Hockey World Cup.
