Seafarers around the country will gather in Suva tomorrow to celebrate World Maritime Day.
The day will start with a procession from the Flea market to Sukuna Park where the main formalities will be held.
MSAF’s Acting Chief Executive, Captain Philip Hill says they have also invited ten schools and organized activities to mark an important date for all seafarers.
”The maritime day event itself is to celebrate the maritime industry as a whole especially to acknowledge the seafarers that’s always there on board any ship. It’s a high risk job. Most of us don’t appreciate it but seafarers know the risk that’s involved but through their training and professionalism at sea we have reduced the accidents and incidents and provided safe transportation both internationally and domestically.”
The celebration will be held from 9am to mid-day.
This year’s World Maritime Day celebration theme is “Our heritage, better shipping, and better future.”
