World Bank says numerous opportunities for Fiji’s economy to grow

The World Bank has stated that there are numerous opportunities the Fijian government can utilize to further develop the economy.

World Bank Country Director Michel Kerf says there are indeed opportunities in the tourism and the ICT sector and they are ready to assist the government in their plans to further grow the economy.

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the partnership with the World Bank Group is vital for Fiji’s growth.

“Because they have partnered with us and it’s worth actually repeating the number of the critical projects they have participated with us and it’s not the only infrastructure but it’s also green bond.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says barring any major shocks, 2019 should register the 10th consecutive year of positive growth as the Reserve Bank anticipates that the economy will expand by 3.4 percent this year.
