The Commissioner Western’s office is now focusing on its second trip of delivering water to its outer islands.

Acting Commissioner Western Joji Satakala confirms the Princess Moana barge will leave within 24hours to be able to cater for the Yasawa’s which includes Tamusua, Bukama, Teci, Nacula Nursing Station, Vuaki village School as well as Yaqeta District School.

Satakala says their first trip covered Malolo Island and Yanuya which included some government stations, however there were a number of areas that couldn’t be reached.

“The main challenges and constraint is the weather situation that we face in Vatulele and of course the Yasawa’s. Some places winds is very strong that does not allow the barge to go closer to some of the schools and villagers so they have to wait.”

The barge is expected to leave tonight for the Yasawa’s to take the much needed water out to the maritime communities.
