WAF urges Lautoka and Nadi resident to store water

February 9, 2019 1:15 pm

A major water shutdown will start from 6pm today for most parts of the Lautoka and Nadi areas.

The Water Authority says this is to allow repairs to a major leakage on the high-pressure water pipeline from the Vaturu Dam to the Nagado Water Treatment Plant.

Board Director Kamal Gounder says due to the heavy downpour in the last two weeks – water levels in the dams increased and caused damage to the pipes.

Gounder says water carting will be done by the authority to ensure people have enough water during the shutdown period.

“What we have done is we have arranged for seven water carting trucks to be on standby carting in the affected areas and what we have also done, we have put around 50 water tanks which is around 5200 and 10,000 litres water tanks located at strategic locations. People can go and fill water if needed.”

Water supply is expected to normalize by 6am Monday.
