Vodafone says constant changes in dates resulted in daylight saving glitch

November 3, 2019 12:20 pm

The public is being reminded that the daylight savings will begin next Sunday.

This as many Fijians got confused this morning, after the time on their mobile phones automatically set an hour ahead of the standard time.

Many people started their day an hour ahead due to this automatic reset.

Responding to queries from FBC News on the change in time a week ahead, Vodafone Fiji says last year daylight saving started on the first Sunday of November, and this year it has been shifted to second Sunday.

It says in every other country where daylight saving is implemented, the day is kept consistent each year to ensure a seamless change in time from the previous year’s DST software time patch applied by the equipment manufacturers.

Vodafone Fiji says due to continued changes in the daylight saving date in Fiji each year, manufacturers of some mobile devices have not been able to apply software patches to automatically adjust the time.

It says because of this, time on some mobile device may have shifted one hour ahead based on last year’s daylight saving time software patch.

Meanwhile, Minister for Employment Parveen Kumar has reiterated that daylight saving will begin next Sunday which is the 10th of November.

Kumar stressed that all Fijians are to switch their clock one hour in advance of the standard time on Sunday, 10 November beginning at 2.00 am.

The daylight saving will end on Sunday 12 January 2020 at 3.00 am where people will be requested to wind their clocks back an hour.
