Vendors, retailers, exporters and manufactures that sell tobacco have until the end of next month to get registered with the Ministry of Health.
Spokesperson – Peni Namotu says to date they have received 4000 application for tobaccos license.
Namotu says registration will help them clamp down illegal sellers.
“Those that do not register with the Ministry and still sell after that will be fined a total of 5000 dollars. Basically after that we will have a fair idea who are actually selling and it will make it easier for us to monitor because under the decree the sale of lose cigarettes to minor is another issue.”
The Ministry has also directed nightclubs to assign a designated area for non-smokers.
