Tidal surges is one of the major challenges faced by the Fiji Roads Authority when it comes to carrying out maintenance work on the Daku and Kiuva roads in Tailevu.

FRA Acting Chief Executive, Robert Sen says the two roads are the only access to more than ten villages in the area.

He says that their contractors are finding it hard to carry out their operation.

“The tidal surge from inland that’s making the drainage or discharge outlet difficult for contractors to clean and the drainages and also the continuous planting of the root crops along the edges of the road.”

FRA adds that the extensive maintenance work includes grading, re-sheeting with 150mm of metal and removal of high shoulders.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of next month.
