Teen charged with receiving stolen goods

A teenager charged with Obtaining Stolen Items has been released on bail by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Shelvin Prakash, a student at the Fiji School of Nursing is alleged to have received stolen mobile phones.

Police prosecutors allege Prakash is an accomplice of one other, involved in stealing and selling mobile phones.

Investigators are waiting for more information from Vodafone Fiji when business resumes on Wednesday.

He and a co-accused appeared in a special court sitting in Suva yesterday.

His lawyer Amrit Chand told court this client is a first offender and there is no likelihood of him absconding bail.

Prakash has been ordered to live with his parents in Tunalia Nadi and to report to the Nadi Police Station between 8am and 6pm everyday.

He’s also been directed to get a medical report after claims that he was assaulted by police.

The case has been adjourned January 9th.
