Teachers need conducive environment: Acting PM

Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they are working to ensure there is always a conducive environment for teachers in the country.

While opening the Fiji Head teachers Association Annual Conference, Sayed-Khaiyum says a lot of issues have been raised by the teachers and they are working to address this.

However, he says these problems cannot be fixed overnight.

“But you must understand that the agenda is to create an environment that is conducive to you so that when you come to school and go away you feel good have a good pay package and also a career path.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says a key issue raised by a lot of teachers is to do with their postings.

He says he was informed that teachers who wanted better posting had to know the District Officer in charge.

The Minister told those present that they are trying to get rid of that particular culture.

The Annual Conference being held in Nadi will end on Friday.
