Tropical Cyclone Gita continues to move west ward away from Fiji as a category five system with reduced speed of 16km/hr.

The Fiji Metrological Services Director, Ravin Kumar says Cyclone Gita was located about 235km south of Kadavu in the last hour.

Kumar says gale warning and strong wind warning still remains in force for some parts of the country.

“Gale warning is for Matuku, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands such as Ono, Bulia and Dravuni. The rest of the group is under a strong wind warning. In terms of mariners still the danger is out there for those in the area close to TC Gita would expect phenomenal seas.”

Kumar says heavy rain fall may lead to flash flooding.
