TC Gita no longer a threat to Fiji

On the weather front – Severe Tropical Cyclone Gita has being downgraded to a Category 3 and poses no threat to Fiji.

Director Meteorological Services – Ravind Kumar has confirmed that TC Gita was located far south of Fiji and moving further away from the group, west south west at about 18km/hr.

Kumar adds, TC Gita is expected to be out of Fiji waters by this afternoon.
However, associated rain bands will continue to affect Fiji.

A heavy rain warning is in force for Yasawa and the Mamanuca group, Northern and Western Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

Expect periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.

Rain is expected to ease from mid-day today.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas, those residing in low lying areas are advised to take the necessary precautions.
