December 10, 2014 6:02 pm

The Fiji Cooperative Dairy Limited (FCDCL) is providing free formulated dairy feed as rations to those farmers in Tailevu who were affected by the floods last weekend.

FCDCL chief executive Sachida Nand says close to 45 farms have been identified, in the greater Tailevu, Viria/Muaniweni areas.

“The affected farms we will give them FCDCL dairy mash, which is a formulated feed and contains all the ingredients that a dairy animal needs, and the first ration is for a week, and we will re-assess the situation next week and if its required of another weeks ration to be supplied, we will do so.”

Each farmer will be getting 4kg ration per day, per animal over seven days.

“We anticipate the total cost of this process will be around $50,000, and the good news that one of our business partners, Punja and Sons from Lautoka, they have come forth and have donated 1000 bags of mill mix for this exercise which is a great relive, towards the formulation of feed to be distributed to the farms.”

Nand says at this stage from their assessment shows the industry has lost two days of milk production.
