Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says it is important that the South Pacific Stock Exchange maintains its credibility at all times.

Speaking at the SPSE Awards in Suva last night, Sayed-Khaiyum said the investors should have enough trust on the Stock Exchange to invest through them.

He says there are many companies out there that can be listed on the Stock Exchange.

“So your staff need to be very very credible, the manner in which you conduct yourself needs to be credible and you should not tolerated people who are not credible at all. So I think the level of transparency needs to be there. Similarly of course one of the reasons why we like companies to be listed – it creates better governance, it is subject to more outside scrutiny and you of course create a lot more transparency. The new Companies Act actually allows for that level of transparency.”

SPSE recognized individuals and companies that invest and contribute to the Fijian economy during their inaugural awards night.
