Speakers debate to focus on Tourism Industry

The public is being urged to turn up in numbers for the Speakers Debate in Suva this afternoon.

This debate will focus on the tourism industry with the theme; ‘Will Fiji’s tourism industry lead to greater economic prosperity for the country as a whole?’

With our tourism industry taking the spot-light, the Speaker’s debate will be a venue for more discussions on how the industry can lead to greater economic prosperity for the whole country.

Tourism, being a lucrative industry in Fiji has driven the economy to greater heights over the past years.

And the industry is linked to a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that Fiji is committed to achieving in a bid to further boost economic developments.

The number of visitors to our shores continue to increase over the years with almost 800,000 tourists and about 7 million visitors’ recorded last year.

The debate panellists include Minister for Industry and Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources, Faiyaz Koya, Opposition MP Prem Singh, Dr. Dawn Gibson from the USP’s School of Tourism and Hospitality, Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association, Chief Executive, Fantasha Lockington and Daniel Urai from the National Union of Hospitality Catering and Tourism Industries Employees.

The Debate is scheduled to be held at the Grand Pacific Hotel from 5pm to 7pm.
