Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni says Opposition parliamentarians are doing their work even during heated debates in parliament.

Dr Luveni says many questions have been raised about how the Speaker controls the rowdiness of MP’s during parliament sittings.

She says that is the work of the Opposition and adds that the more rowdy they are the more interesting debates in parliament will get.

Dr Luveni added she has also been accused of favoring government being a former FijiFirst party member, however she maintains she is fair to everyone and ensures all MP’s are given the opportunity to speak in parliament.

‘’Because the government-their role is to answer questions and their role is to make ministerial statements that’s open for debates they’re more likely to present their case and sit back its the opposition that will scrutinize the bills, it’s the opposition that will oppose just about everything that the government does and that’s why they become rowdy and they’re more likely to go rowdy and more likely to break the rules and this is why I always do a ruling in parliament’’.

Dr Luveni made the comments following the launch of a book for students about parliament and the proceedings.
