SODELPA manifesto supports life long careers in the civil service

October 20, 2018 7:03 pm

A key policy in the Social Democratic Liberal Party manifesto is removing short term contracts in the civil service.

SODELPA Party Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka says if elected as the next government, the civil service will be a life-long career choice.

“People coming into a career and they stay in the career until they wanna get out or until they reach the retiring age. Contract would be a short term answer to some immediate needs. If we find that there is a new department say to move us into a new area, they may be a need for contracting, bringing back some already in retirement or advertising internationally. But I’m sure we have all the brain power we need in Fiji.”

In response to whether this would further challenge job creation, Rabuka says this wouldn’t be the case.

SODELPA was the first political party to launch their manifesto yesterday in Suva.

They are one of the six parties that’s expected to contest the General Elections next month.
