Significant increase in July visitor arrivals

Fiji has recorded another significant increase in visitor arrivals.

Provisional numbers from the Bureau of Statistics show that visitor arrivals for last month reached a record 72, 525.

This is an increase of 13. 8 percent compared to a year earlier.

Arrivals from Australia were the highest for month, recording an increase of 2, 848 tourists.

2,389 more tourists came from New Zealand and 1, 413 from Pacific island countries. There was an increase of 1, 237 tourists from China and 1, 233 from the US.

Decreases were recorded in the number of visitors from the rest of Asia, it was down by 388.

Visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 79.1 per cent of the total arrivals. 6. 3 per cent came to visit their family or relatives and 3.5 per cent came for business purposes.
