Sedition case unrelated to alleged Ra rebel group: DPP

August 10, 2015 7:01 pm

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde says a case involving three men charged with sedition is a separate matter.

Pryde says it is unrelated to an alleged rebel group from Ra that was charged with sedition last month.

Timoci Nagata, Pita Camaimoala Vakatawa and Saimoni Nacolawa have been charged with sedition and inciting communal antagonism under the Crimes
Decree 2009.

The men were produced at the Lautoka Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The State asked for all three to be remanded in custody due to the seriousness of the charges and the ongoing police investigations.

The court however granted bail on conditions that they each provided two sureties on a bond of $1000, not to reoffend, and not to change their addresses.

The matter has been adjourned to 17 August 2015.
