SCGC urges farmers to help assessment teams

May 6, 2018 7:06 pm

The Sugar Cane Growers Council is urging farmers to avail themselves when assessment teams visit their area to conduct assessment so that they can get assistance under the Sugar Cane Care Assistance Scheme.

Acting Chief Executive Sunil Chaudhry says this will benefit both the farmers and the assessment team as farmers will be in a better position to provide the teams with the actual damage sustained on their farms.

Chaudhry says this will also avoid unnecessary disappointments as farmers will get the rightful aid they are eligible for.

“Definitely the field staff would be advising the growers in advance that the assessment team would be in their area on certain days so the growers can assist the assessment team by telling them the actual damages that was caused to their farm.”

The Government announced sugarcane farmers who were affected by the recent floods and cyclone will be assisted under this scheme.

Assistance will be provided for clearing debris, drains and waterways, fertilizer supplement for young ratoons, improvement of cane access roads and damage to crossings.
